Chapter History
January 1, 2011 - December 31, 2011
In our first full year in Alvin, Texas, John Wayne Chapter took part in every major Texas DeMolay event during the year. In February, 8 members and our Chapter Duchess attended the Texas DeMolay Government Day at the State Capitol in Austin. In March, 4 members attended the Frank Marshall Championship Tournament for ritual, taking home the Open Level Novice Division Championship for Flower Talk, and one Obligations Medal. Also in March, the Chapter celebrated DeMolay Month 2010 in a big way, holding events for each of the seven DeMolay precepts, including parents night, attending church together, a lecture and training sesison on courtesy, a fun day for comradeship, initiating four members in a fidelity class, cleaning the exterior of the Lodge building and yard, and a lecture on patriotism. For our efforts, the Chapter received a Texas DeMolay Outstanding Chapter Award, and also was one of only six Chapters world wide to receive the Outstanding Chapter Award from DeMolay International. In April, the Chapter sponsored the William A. Dixon, Jr. Squire Manor, which was chartered that same month with 8 Charter Members. In May, 13 members attended the Masonic Youth Weekend near Waco. In June, the Chapter raised almost $3,200 for the Alvin-Manvel Relay-for-Life fight against cancer, becoming one of the top money raising Chapters in the world. In July, 9 members and our Chapter Sweetheart attended the Texas DeMolay Conclave, taking home Championships in Volleyball Junior Division, Tennis Singles Junior Division, Fourth Section Standard Division, and Flower Talk Standard Division. In September, 3 members attended the first ever DeMolay Leadership Conference to be held in Texas (Dallas). In October, the Squires of Dixon Manor, along with the Chapter members assisted the Alvin Masonic Family at the Trick-Or-Treat Trails held by the City of Alvin. In November, the Chapter initiated two members as part of the Dad Land class, and in December the members donated toys to the children of the Shriners Burns Hospital in Galveston, TX and also donated a $100 check and four boxes of food to the Alvin Food Pantry. They also donated a fully cooked brisket to the Women's Shelter of Brazoria County. While only 7 new members were initiated during 2011, it was still a very good year. The photos and stories below tell more about each of the events.
